Planting Hedgerow

Students taking a Sustainable Agriculture class at the University of the Pacific came out at the beginning of February to help plant a hedgerow along our property.
What we're planting:

We selected plants that are native to California, particularly the Lodi area. These plants are drought tolerant and are home to beneficial insects and birds.

  • Valley Oak Trees
  • Quail Bush
  • Hollyberry
  • Coffeeberry
  • Yarrow
  • Wild Lilac

About Sustainable Agriculture

Farming the BEST

Lodi's fertile soils are the epitome of California's prized agricultural land. Making sure that it is used and enjoyed in the most responsible manner is at the heart of the Lodi Rules Sustainable Agriculture program. Sustainable agriculture practices aim to improve all aspects of farming, from plant to consumer. To be Certified Green in the Lodi Rules program extensive plans must be made, records kept for activities in the vineyard, and decisions made based on what is best for the land, the wildlife, the grower, and the consumer. Environmental, economical, and social responsibility on the farm are crucial to a healthy, stable, and bright future for California. Spenker Winery and Vineyards is honored to be a leading participant in this effort.
